Lincoln University Street Athletics Festival
An activity that is open for people of all ages, Lincoln University’s Street Athletics Festival is an athletic meet that is like no other. The crowd is allowed to get to see the action, up close and personal. The sponsor will invite the best athletes from around the world to come and join in the fun. Happening on March 6, 2019 at the Christchurch Casino, Commonwealth medallists Eliza McCartney and Tom Walsh will be there. Expect food trucks, giveaways, and beer tents in the venue. A DJ will also be there to play delightful sporty music on the background. You can also take advantage of the family-friendly activities prepared for you.
Community Health Run
If you are looking for fun run and walks in Christchurch’s list of sporting events for this year, you have the Community Health Run to participate in. Happening weekly, every Wednesday, this fun run has been created by Canterbury DHF staff members. The purpose of this activity is to meet other members of the community while everyone else gets healthy together. You can donate a gold coin with all proceeds going to a local charity. Meet-up point is at the Pegasus Arms Restaurant & Bar and from there, participants can proceed to their 3km, 5lm, and 8km courses.
East Side of Town Social Basketball
An activity which started at the Cowles Stadium on Feb 20th, this 6-week social basketball will end until 27th of March, 2019. The schedule is from 6:00pm to 9:00pm every Wednesday and the activity is open to women and girls who love playing basketball. You can register your entire team to play or simply come by during Wednesday nights and form a team with other lone participants.
Jennian Homes New Zealand Track and Field Championships
Scheduled on the 2nd weekend of March 2019, this track and field championships will be held at Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub. The activity will start from 9:00am and will end at 8:00pm on March 8, at 6:00pm on March 9, and at 4:00pm on March 10. This is where New Zealand’s top athletes come and showcase their running prowess. Entry is free for the first day but tickets are sold at $7 and $18 for kids and adults for March 9th and 10th. Spectators are given the chance to compete by registering under the Jennian Homes People’s Mile. Additional fees of $5 will be charged for each participant entering this match.
Messy Mud Nature Play
Scheduled to take place on March 14, 2019, this event will happen from 10:30am-11:30am for kids aged 2 to 5 years old accompanied by their parents, and from 3:30pm to 4:30pm for 5 to 10-year olds. This will be held at the Bottle Lake Forest Park and is happening in celebration of Parks Week. Hoses will be used to make lots of mud where everyone can indulge in a spectacular mudslide. Get dirty and have fun by playing at the venue. Make sure you bring an old towel and extra clothes with you.
Walk for Dementia
Want to participate in a walk for a cause while in Christchurch? Walk for Dementia is the perfect activity for you. Scheduled at the Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub on March 17, 2019 from 10:00am to 11:30am, this activity is open to people of all ages. Spot prizes await participants at the venue at the end of the walk. This is a walk conducted in memory of loved ones who once suffered or are currently suffering from dementia. This is a fund-raising event to support the community, particularly that of the Dementia Canterbury.
You Got This Stadium Tour
The all-new tour taking place at the Christchurch Stadium on March 23, 2019 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm will showcase the best and most fearless drivers from Nitro Circus. These riders are ready to brave the biggest ramps all over New Zealand with different activities scheduled in various parts of the country. There will be two new ramps that will be used in the tour. Get ready to be mesmerised and be in awe while these athletes show their fearless moves on the ramp. Coming from its North American Tour, this sporting event is one that you should not miss should you be in Christchurch for summer.
Jump For Cancer Hagley
Another sporting activity for a cause is the ‘Jump for Cancer Hagley‘ which is scheduled to run on March 24, 2019 from 11:30am to 4:00pm at the Hagley Park North. This brings in show jumping, showcasing the athletic stance of New Zealand’s top equestrians. There are also pony and horse classes on the said date, where amateur and professional riders come to enjoy the fun. Food will be sold at the venue. Make sure you grab a bite of your favourite pizza or gourmet potatoes. Get a drink or a dessert from those selling goodies around the area. VIP marquee will be open to VIP ticket holders. Proceeds from this event will go to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.
2019 McDonald’s Youth Duathlon
If you happen to be in Christchurch on April 7, 2019 and you want to have some extraordinary fun with your family, you can join this duathlon which is sponsored by McDonald’s. To be held on the said date at the Hagley Park Netball Courts, this is open to people of all ages and is brought to you by Garden City Rotary. Medals await entrants winning the events. Sponsor gift packs containing their products will also be given away, and a competition T-shirt will be given to all entrants!
